Pre-Engagement & Premarital Counseling

Prepare for a Marriage, Not Just a Wedding

What if one of the best things you could do for your future marriage happened before you even got engaged?

Imagine discovering the strengths of your relationship, learning how to navigate your differences, and having meaningful conversations about your future together - all before the excitement and demands of wedding planning begin.
Whether you're considering engagement, planning your wedding, or wondering if marriage is the right next step, I would love to welcome you into this experience.

Why Consider Pre-Engagement Counseling?

Many couples think of premarital counseling as something to check off their wedding planning list. But it can be so much more!

Pre-engagement counseling offers the same valuable experience as premarital counseling, without the pressure of an approaching wedding date.

It's an opportunity to celebrate what's working in your relationship, explore important questions, and better understand one another before making a lifelong commitment.

Perhaps you're excited about your future but have a few concerns you'd like to work through. Or maybe things are going beautifully, and you simply want to build on the wonderful relationship you've already created.

You don't need to have problems to benefit from counseling, and you don't need to have all the answers before you arrive.

Already Engaged? Congratulations!

Premarital counseling is a wonderful opportunity to pause amid the excitement of wedding planning and focus on the relationship you're building.

While many couples begin approximately six months before their wedding, you're welcome to begin whenever you're ready. Starting early simply gives you more time to enjoy the process and put what you discover into practice.

After all, the wedding is one day. Your marriage is a lifetime.

How Does It Work?

I use the FOCCUS relationship inventory, a well-established tool that helps couples discover areas of agreement, explore differences, and identify meaningful topics for conversation.

The process is simple:

  1. Complete the online inventory. Each partner completes the FOCCUS inventory individually, taking approximately 40 minutes.

  2. Meet for three counseling sessions. We'll spend three 45-minute sessions exploring your relationship, celebrating your strengths, and discussing opportunities for growth.

  3. Take what you've learned into your future. You'll leave with greater insight into each other and practical ways to continue nurturing your relationship.

This is a collaborative, insightful, and often fun experience!

Your Investment

The complete experience is $550, which includes:

  • FOCCUS relationship inventory: $25

  • Three 45-minute counseling sessions: $175 each

You may pay per session or all at once.

Sessions are available in person in Bellevue, Washington, or online via Zoom.

A Special Invitation for Catholic Couples

If you're preparing for marriage in the Catholic Church, I would be delighted to support you through the process. I have experience using the FOCCUS inventory for Catholic marriage preparation and am happy to coordinate with your parish to help meet its specific requirements.

Catholic couples considering engagement are also warmly invited to begin this process before setting a wedding date.

Wherever you are in your relationship journey, I look forward to helping you discover what's wonderful about your relationship and explore what comes next - together.
